The Project

When you have decades of experience in your industry like Chris Funk does, having a long list of high-profile clientele and being known a leading stylist is merited. But what’s eventually inevitable is an outdated brand.

Chris reached out to us when his branding no longer matched his caliber of work and clientele. His logomark used a typeface that conveyed his background in fashion, but as a business, he was offering sophisticated styling sessions to high-income clients for upscale events.

After a diligent discovery process with Chris, we defined his market positioning as elevated and luxurious, and reimagined his brand in a way that doesn’t represent what he does, but the intricacies of who he is and how he uniquely does it.

The TWYST

Instead of stating the obvious with a swoosh of hair or pair of scissors, we wanted Chris’ brand to tell the story of what makes him so sought-after: his elegance and professionalism. These qualities are evidenced in the way Chris carries himself, in the technicality of his artistry, and in the clientele he serves. And now, they’re the driving forces behind his brand.

The Solution

To materialize those characteristics into a brand, we asked ourselves, “If Chris had his own salon, what would it look like? What would make clients feel like they’re walking into an elevated, high-class experience?”

Envisioning bold, deep navy walls accented by polished gold hardware, we used this luxury colour palette as the brand’s foundation. The typeface, a balance between serif and sans serif, featuring a unique diamond as the dot above the “i”. Finally, we combined the letters C and F to craft a beautiful brandmark that’s practical to a variety of design applications.

The result is a brand and social media kit that truly emulates Chris Funk Hair. Just like the elevated nature of his work, the contrasting visual elements work together to strike the perfect balance between elegant and playful, lavish and familiar — intentionally speaking to who Chris is and his style of work.
